Punjabi cuisine is famous not only in India but around the world, known for its exotic flavours, delectable spices and unique cooking methods. Suitable for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, there is a particular emphasis on tandoori dishes. The Tandoor is an integral part of Punjabi cuisine, and the charcoal fires contribute the unique taste and texture of the rotis, naans and meats. The delicious rices, savoury naans and buttery sauces all come together to create a truly wonderous experience, and it is no wonder that Indian and Punjabi cuisine is one of the UK's favourite cuisines.

Our History

We first opened the Indian Lounge in 1983, and it was our mission to offer authentic and delicious Indian and Punjabi cuisine at a price that offered great value for money. For more than 30 years we have stayed true to that mission and we are proud to have served thousands of people from our intimate restaurant in Edinburgh. We have only been able to continue for so long by committing ourselves to sourcing the freshest ingredients and using traditional Indian methods of cooking. Our philosophy is cook fresh, live long, which means that because we use only the highest quality ingredients, much of our food is very healthy as a result.

We are a family-run business, so we're far more invested in your experience than a chain restaurant. Not only is the food important, but so is the service and we will be attentive to your every need. Our restaurant is a warm, inviting place with an emphasis on ambience and atmosphere. Our server recommended the best combinations of foods which perfectly complimented one another and were very satisfying to our tastebuds. “Really good Indian restaurant on Rose Street. We hadn't booked but they found us a table anyway and we were quickly asked for a drink order. Drinks arrived within a couple of minutes and poppadoms also came out to us very quickly and were nice and hot. I'd recommend the Haggis pakora starter! When our mains came out they were piping hot and very tasty if not particularly spicy. Maybe not the cheapest Indian meal we've ever had but was very nice and food was great so no complaints from me!”

I ordered the garlic and chilli one and usually when I've ordered elsewhere they only have a hint of garlic whereas this was extremely garlicky and seasoned to perfection in every possible way. Everything else we ordered was sublime as well.”
